Yan Qiao

This piece depicts a classic thatched-roof cottage in Giethoorn, captured from the viewpoint of a boat traveling along the canal.

The main focus of the artwork is the abundant, dense greenery wrapping around the traditional structure. The foreground features energetic brushstrokes in various green and yellow values to represent the tall grass lining the water's edge. A prominent cluster of purple and pink blossoms grows in the center of the garden, standing out against the deeper shadows surrounding the cottage. A moving, cloudy sky with small bird silhouettes completes the scene.
