QY Art Studio

Based in the Netherlands and born in Beijing, I bring a unique global perspective and an analytical eye to the fluid, unpredictable world of contemporary watercolor. For over two decades, my life was anchored in the structured realm of law, working as an experienced in-house legal counsel. Yet, as the demands of my legal career intensified, so did my need for a creative counterweight. I turned to watercolor—a medium that requires a beautiful balance of precise control and letting go.

Having lived across cultures, my artwork naturally reflects a rich tapestry of environments. My paintings bridge diverse worlds: from the symbolic, storytelling depth of my Chinese heritage and the sun-baked, ancient stones of coastal Spain, to the iconic, moody drama of the Dutch skies right outside my window in Den Bosch, and many more.

Whether capturing the quiet tranquility of a rain-soaked canal, the fleeting warmth of a Mediterranean alleyway, or a playful, unexpected moment between surfacing koi, my work invites viewers to slow down and find the poetry hidden in plain sight.

My artistic education has been driven by a disciplined, self-led study of online masterclasses taught by globally renowned watercolorists. Through their mentorship, I have developed a deep fascination with light, atmosphere, and texture. I use these techniques to transform everyday observations into vibrant visual narratives.

Are you looking for a unique and personal piece of art? Alongside my regular collection, I am happy to accept custom commission requests to turn your favorite photographs into atmospheric watercolor paintings.

Whether it is a special moment from your travels, a cherished memory from daily life, or a portrait of your loved ones—both human and animal—I aim to capture the essence of the scene using the transparent and fluid qualities of watercolor.

How it works:

  • Your Photo: You provide one or more clear reference photos of the subject you would like painted.
  • Discussion: Together, we will discuss your preferences, the desired dimensions, and the overall feel of the piece.
  • Sizes: Commissions are available in various standard sizes (such as 18x26 cm, A4, or A3).

A hand-painted watercolor makes a timeless keepsake for your own home or a thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gift for a friend or family member.
